| Foliage: | Narrow-linear green to greyish leaves that often develop some purple and red tones on the edges. Leaves to 30cm long x 3-4mm wide and dry to an orange-brown in summer. |
| Flowers: | Large green and red-brown flowerheads on slightly arching stems from September to February. |
| General Comments: | Soft, erect or spreading perennial tussock. One of Australia’s most widespread grasses. An attractive grass, providing an ornamental addition to a garden for its interesting colour and texture. Requires little water once established. May be pruned back. Moist, well-drained soils, not tolerating very wet or dry conditions. |

| Plant Propagation: | Seed can be planted 15 mm deep or spread like mulch when the whole inflorescences are harvested. Kangaroo Grass does not transplant well but success has been achieved with square tube stock pots which air prune the roots and stop the seedlings becoming root bound. When planted out, water crystals and slow release fertiliser should be placed in the hole with the seedling, it should then be watered in well. |
